Hi, just wanted to share an anecdote from teaching. I was reading one of my students on the Autism Spectrum the book "The very quiet cricket" by Eric Carle...its one of my favorites about a cricket who so wants to communicate, and meets so many bugs he wants to connect with but cant. Then the final page has a mechanism that actually makes a cricket sound...kids love that ending and never get tired of it...it makes them focus throughout the whole book.

ANYWAY...as I was reading to J., who has social communication delays, I asked "why is it that the cricket can't talk, do you think?

J. said: "because he wants to cry"

It was either one of those really incredibly honest moments when a person can tell you exactly how they feel inside...or it was something he heard and was repeating but i think it was the former..It was a wonderful moment!
