This is a group for the adults with SPD. This is a group to share how SPD affects your life, getting a diagnosis, your OT needs if you have them, what you do to keep up with your needs and anything else you want to share!

I've noticed that as well I'm much more sensitive to everything around that time. Between dealing with my DD and myself (and a two yr. old little boy) I'm emotionaly exhausted by the time my husband gets home. Thanks Erin for sharing!

How do sensory disorders affect your life?
My SPD affects nearly all the areas in my life. It can make it very hard for me to sit through a long class, and makes me very anxious at times. The only time when I don't feel it at all is when I am riding horses.
About Me:
I am a 25 year old woman going to school to become an RN. I am currently seeing an OT once a week to address various issues related to how it affects my life. I work and ride at a local horse barn. I like to read and do a lot of homework.

I read your post where you wrote what you were feeling when you were on the verge of a meltdown. It really helped me understand how my daughter feels. Thank you for sharing. I wonder if it would be okay w/you if I shared it on my blog?

Hi Erin! Nice to e-meet you (is that a real phrase?). ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) is a routine and skill based program for children on the Autism Spectrum, though it has shown to be a benefit for people with ADD and/or ADHD, as well.
Goals are created based on the individuals' needs and concerns. Skills are taught through repitition and reinforcers. Once skills are mastered, they remain in the program, and are mixed with new, more difficult skills. This is done in order to provide more opportunities to succeed (through performing learned skills), while learning more advanced skills (that may not be mastered right away).
There are newer ABA programs that are not as rigid, rote, and routine as classic ABA. As always, there are people for and against both styles.
Hope this helps. Take care!
